Homemade Salsa with Canned Tomatoes
This homemade salsa recipe is sort of a cheat recipe because it uses canned tomatoes and a bit of tomato sauce. For the true blue chef, of course you can use your own canned tomatoes and sauce or use from fresh tomatoes.

Ingredients
- 1 jalapeno
- 1 shallot, roughly chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/4 cup cilantro leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- juice of half a lime
- 14 ounce can of diced or whole tomatoes, with liquid
- 8 ounce can of tomato sauce
Directions
- Remove the seeds and white ribs from the pepper and cut the jalapeno into 4 pieces.
- Use a food processor and blend the jalapeno, shallot, garlic and cilantro.
- Pulse it a few times.
- Add sugar, salt and lime juice.
- Pulse until finely chopped.
- Add tomatoes and tomato sauce and pulse until your desired smoothness.
